BioStack Secures $9.5M Seed for Healthcare AI Data
BioStack, a San Francisco-based startup, raised $9.5 million in seed funding to expand its global infrastructure for aggregating de-identified clinical data to train medical AI models.

BioStack, a San Francisco-based healthcare data startup, has raised $9.5 million in a seed funding round. The capital will fuel the expansion of its global data infrastructure and team. The company, founded in 2025, is part of Y Combinator's Spring 2026 batch and currently employs 11 people.
Investors in the round included Peak XV Partners, Afore Capital, DCVC, Emerson Collective, SV Angel, Verdict Capital, and Streamlined Ventures. The company did not disclose its valuation. The funding arrives as the healthtech market shows increased capital concentration, with 2026 seeing about 15% more investment across roughly 25% fewer deals compared to 2025.
Core data infrastructure and scope
BioStack aggregates fragmented, de-identified patient records from hospital systems to build proprietary longitudinal datasets for medical AI research and development. Its network spans the United States, India, Brazil, and Argentina, providing access to more than 100 million de-identified patient records.
The company combines data from electronic health records, medical imaging, clinical notes, and medications. It has processed a vast array of specific clinical data points, creating comprehensive patient histories.
These datasets support use cases including AI model evaluation, disease modeling, biomarker discovery, patient stratification, and treatment-response analysis. BioStack also facilitates specific clinical programs, such as connecting cancer patients in India to an investigational cancer vaccine program, though the scale of that initiative is not public.
Growth strategy and team expansion
The new capital will be used to expand operations across the US, India, Brazil, and Argentina. A key focus is deepening hospital partnerships to broaden the data network. Proceeds will also support further development of the core technology platform and growth of the engineering and research teams.
BioStack plans to scale its tech stack and hire additional staff in these domains. The expansion aims to solidify its international presence and enhance its data aggregation capabilities.
Technical differentiation and market positioning
BioStack was founded by Sanat Mishra, the CEO, and Parth Patwa, the CTO. Mishra previously conducted cancer genomics research at institutions including Stanford and Carnegie Mellon and holds degrees from IISER Mohali and Carnegie Mellon. Patwa is a former generative AI scientist at AWS and a former MIT researcher, with a master’s degree from UCLA and numerous published papers.
The company positions itself as critical infrastructure for a market hungry for AI-ready health data. Its platform incorporates workflows tailored to individual healthcare providers' data privacy protocols. It turns scattered hospital records into connected datasets for training and validating AI models for biotech and healthcare companies.
Pushpak Kedia, Vice President of lead investor Peak XV, stated that BioStack is building essential infrastructure that connects fragmented clinical information for clinicians, researchers, and AI developers. Co-founder Sanat Mishra echoed that the mission is to make disconnected clinical information useful for these groups.
The broader context includes a projected $1.3 billion Indian AI training dataset market by 2033, with several other startups also collecting health data for AI. BioStack's future success is seen as dependent on securing major hospital or biotech customers, validating its datasets in published model benchmarks, and handling regional consent laws. BioStack plans to continue developing its technology with new funding.
