Incredible Health Raises $97.5M for Healthcare Hiring
Incredible Health, a startup co-founded by doctor Iman Abuzeid, has raised about $97.5 million. The platform, which reverses the hiring process for healthcare workers, is used by 1.5 million professionals and 1,500 employers.

Incredible Health has raised approximately $97.5 million from investors. The San Francisco-based healthcare hiring platform was co-founded in 2017 by Iman Abuzeid, a medical doctor who chose not to practice, and software engineer Rome Portlock.
According to an interview with Crunchbase News, the company says its products are used by 1.5 million healthcare professionals, including one in two U.S. Nurses, and 1,500 healthcare employers. Its backers include Andreessen Horowitz, Base10 Partners, Obvious Ventures, Precursor Ventures, and NFX.
From Medical School to Startup CEO
Iman Abuzeid completed medical school in London but decided against a residency. She told reporters her father was disappointed. Abuzeid explained her shift, saying, "Working as a doctor is great, but you're only working with one patient at a time." With software, "you have millions of users using your products."
After moving to the U.S., she worked in healthcare consulting at Booz Allen and McKinsey, earned an MBA from Wharton, and became a product manager at a health tech startup. It was there she met her co-founder, MIT-trained engineer Rome Portlock. Abuzeid, who does not code, serves as CEO. She argues a founder's core job is problem-solving, not writing code.
Reversing the Hiring Process
The startup was born from a clear market mismatch. Abuzeid heard from doctor friends about chronic understaffing, while Portlock's nurse relatives described applying to jobs and receiving no response. The founders found hospital recruiting teams were often small, overwhelmed, and manual.
Incredible Health's marketplace flips the script. Employers apply to healthcare workers. The software automates screening and matching for permanent jobs at hospitals, surgery centers, and other facilities. The service is free for professionals; employers pay an annual subscription. Customers include Kaiser Permanente, Tenet Health, Trinity Health, and Johns Hopkins.
A Selective Fundraising Strategy
Incredible Health's total funding of about $97 million came from seed, Series A, and Series B rounds. Abuzeid spoke with around 70 investors for the seed round; eight invested. She said each round was oversubscribed, partly because the company often operates near cash-flow break-even.
Abuzeid is selective. She prefers firms with marketplace experience and partners who have operated companies. She also prioritizes investors who have already backed women or founders of color. "I don't want to be the first," she said. "I'm not here to overcome someone's bias."
Integrating AI Agents
In 2025, Incredible Health incorporated AI into its products, developing agents with major health systems. One agent, named Lyn, conducts initial recruiter interviews. Abuzeid said Lyn has cut hiring time by 30%. Three-quarters of interviews now happen within 24 hours of application, down from up to two weeks. About 40% occur at night or on weekends.
A second agent, Gail, helps professionals create résumés and practice for interviews. The AI extensions reflect the founders' roles: Portlock oversees engineering and data, while Abuzeid use her medical and product management background. For Abuzeid, this shows that founding a software company is ultimately about solving customer problems.
