Quantum cybersecurity startup QNu Labs has secured ₹200 Cr (approximately $21 Mn) in a Series A1 funding round. The investment was co-led by the state-backed National Quantum Mission and venture capital firm Speciale Invest, with participation from Sony Innovation Fund, Gaja Capital, and Artha Ventures, among others.

This latest capital infusion brings the Bengaluru-based company's total funds raised to ₹375 Cr. QNu Labs had previously raised ₹60 Cr in a Series A round. According to cofounder and CEO Sunil Gupta, the new capital will be deployed across research and development, sales, go-to-market strategy, and forging new partnerships.

Gupta told Inc42 that the startup will also invest in internal processes, IT, and automation as it transitions from a technology development phase into what he termed a "proof-of-scale" business.

Expanding Product Portfolio

The funding arrives as QNu Labs expands its cybersecurity offerings. The company has developed a new platform called QShield 2.0, which focuses on the discovery and assessment of cryptographic assets. This tool is designed to help enterprises prepare for a quantum-safe migration of their systems.

Beyond its core portfolio, the startup is working on security solutions for drones and satellites. Its drone security technology is already undergoing pilot tests, and Gupta stated the company expects this offering to cater to the defence sector.

Meeting Government Grant Requirements

A significant portion of the fresh capital will help QNu Labs meet the matching requirement for a major government project. The company was awarded a ₹150 Cr project under the government's Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, which required it to raise a matching amount from its own side.

The startup confirmed it has already signed the final term sheet for this RDI project, and the new funding will enable it to fulfill its financial commitment.

Company Background and Products

Founded in 2016 by Sunil Gupta and Srinivasa Rao Aluri, QNu Labs builds cybersecurity products aimed at protecting data and communications from threats posed by quantum computing. The company's current solutions are based on three key technologies: quantum random number generation (QRNG), quantum key distribution (QKD), and post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

Gupta claims the company's quantum-safe VPN is currently its most sought-after product. QNu Labs employs around 180 people.

Market Outlook and Global Expansion

Gupta underlined the necessity of the fundraise, stating that quantum technology is moving closer to mainstream adoption. He pointed to India's target of 2029 for the transition to quantum-safe systems. "Now the common understanding across the globe is that this tech will become mainstream in the next 2 to 3 years," he said.

The startup is also strengthening its international footprint. It has a presence in Australia and the United States, along with partnerships in other markets. While its business in India involves selling both hardware and software, its international operations largely focus on providing subscription-based platforms to enterprises in sectors like banking and healthcare.
