Homeward has raised $120 million in a Series D equity funding round. The round was led by alternative investment firm Saluda Grade, with participation from Citi Ventures, Continental General Insurance Company, Adams Street Partners, Javelin Venture Partners, Magnetar Capital, Norwest, First American, and Harmony Partners.

Separately, the company secured a $330 million asset-backed debt facility to fund additional home transactions. The new equity capital will support the expansion of Homeward's financing products and investment in its technology platform. The startup plans to accelerate its nationwide expansion.

Use of funds and strategic priorities

Homeward will use the equity financing to grow its range of financing products and improve its platform technology. The capital injection is aimed at accelerating the company's nationwide expansion. A key strategic goal is to make its Buy Before You Sell program available across the country by the end of this year.

Business model and customer value

Homeward is a startup that helps homeowners buy before selling their existing homes or get cash offers for their properties. It works through real estate agents to help clients access home equity and handle the timing challenges of buying and selling.

The company's Buy Before You Sell program provides short-term financing so homeowners can purchase their next house before selling their current one. This product combines the bridge financing with a guaranteed backup offer for the existing property. For sellers, the Sell Before You List program offers a cash purchase and closing within weeks. Homeward then fixes up properties bought via this program and resells them on the open market, returning any profit from the resale to the original homeowner while charging a program fee.

These financing solutions can remove home-sale contingencies and provide faster access to home equity. The cash offer solution gives homeowners the certainty of a cash transaction while allowing them to participate in the potential upside when their property is later resold. For buyers, the Buy with Cash product helps them make competitive cash-backed offers, with the option to refinance into a traditional mortgage after closing. Homeward's distribution model centres on real estate professionals, and its platform also includes Homeward Mortgage and Homeward Title services.

Traction and market context

Homeward has now raised $360 million in equity since its inception in 2018. The Austin-based company has partnered with more than 25,000 real estate agents and has facilitated more than $4 billion in residential real estate transactions.

The funding arrives as global real estate-related startups have pulled in about $12.7 billion in seed-through growth-stage investment so far in 2026. This puts investment on pace to top 2025’s total of $12.3 billion. The sector's peak was in 2021, though 2019 saw the second-highest year on record with $24 billion raised.

Leadership vision and product differentiation

Founder and CEO Tim Heyl said agents remain central to successful transactions. He credits a strategic pivot with helping Homeward more than quadruple its revenue since 2021. The company declined to disclose the valuation of the Series D round but said it was similar to its Series C valuation in 2021. That earlier round raised $136 million at a valuation reported to be just north of $800 million.

Heyl explained the company's evolution, stating, We realized that there’s an opportunity to help homeowners sell their home fast without sacrificing all of their home equity like they would have to if they sold to an investor. The recent financing has already helped Homeward roll out its cash-offer program across the 48 contiguous states. John Stepp of Saluda Grade noted, "They really understood the core issues they were addressing."

Homeward plans to make its Buy Before You Sell program available nationwide by year-end.
