Lyte, a physical AI startup founded by ex-Apple engineers, has raised $165 million in a Series C round led by Maverick Silicon, achieving a $1.6 billion valuation.

Lyte has raised $165 million in a Series C funding round, achieving a post-money valuation of $1.6 billion. The physical AI startup, which builds sensing technology for robots, announced the financing led by Maverick Silicon.
This investment brings Lyte's total funding to $272 million. According to Crunchbase News, participants included Fidelity Management And Research Co., Atreides Management, Key1 Capital, Ora Global, and other existing and new investors.
Company Background
Founded in 2021, Lyte is based in Sunnyvale, California. Its founders are Alexander Shpunt, Arman Hajati, and Yuval Gerson, all former Apple engineers who worked on advanced sensing and perception technologies. Shpunt had previously co-founded PrimeSense, a company whose 3D-sensing technology was used in Microsoft's Kinect before Apple acquired it in 2013.
The team's earlier work contributed to bringing 3D perception into mainstream use and later formed a basis for Apple's Face ID system. Lyte remained in stealth mode until earlier this year, when it revealed it had already secured $107 million in Series A and B funding.
Technology and Market Focus
Lyte develops custom silicon, 4D sensing, RGB technology, motion awareness, and AI software. This suite is designed to help robots comprehend their location and detect movement in their surroundings. The company's initial customer base is primarily in the warehousing and manufacturing sectors.
CEO Alexander Shpunt outlined the company's mission to Crunchbase News. "Physical AI will create entirely new categories of robots, and every one of them will need to understand the world around it."
Funding and Market Context
Andrew Homan, managing partner at lead investor Maverick Silicon, has joined Lyte's board of directors. In a release, he stated, "Lyte is building a foundational sensing platform that enables a wide range of robots to perceive and understand the world around them."
Venture funding in the physical AI sector has surged recently. Crunchbase data shows a dramatic increase in investment.
| Period | Venture Funding | Number of Deals |
|---|---|---|
| First Half 2026 | $47.4 billion | 521 |
| Second Half 2025 | $12 billion | 470 |
| First Half 2025 | $26.4 billion | 436 |
Funding in the first half of 2026 was nearly four times higher than in the second half of 2025 and showed an increase of almost 80% compared to the first half of 2025.
The new capital will support Lyte's efforts to establish its technology as a core perception layer for the next generation of robotics.
