Yuma Energy Raises $35M Series A From Magna
Battery swapping startup Yuma Energy has raised $35 million in a Series A round from existing backer Magna International.

Battery swapping platform Yuma Energy has raised $35 million (₹333 crore) in a Series A funding round. The investment came from its existing backer, the Canadian automotive giant Magna International.
Yuma plans to use the capital to expand its battery swapping network across India, broaden its customer base, and strengthen its technology platform. The startup and Magna will also collaborate to scale Yuma's presence in India's electric two- and three-wheeler ecosystem.
Founded in 2023, Yuma Energy is a joint venture between Magna and the electric mobility platform Yulu Energy. Magna infused $52 million at inception for a 51% controlling stake, while Yulu contributed certain assets and intellectual property for the remaining 49%.
Current Scale and Ambitions
Yuma Energy currently operates more than 2,500 charging stations across 18 Indian cities. The company claims to have accumulated 1 lakh batteries and delivered more than 6 crore battery swaps to date. This operational scale provides a strong foundation as the company works to expand its network.
Muthu Subramanian, Yuma's managing director, commented on the milestone. "Crossing 6 Cr swaps was a defining moment for us," he said. "With Magna's support, we're accelerating our infrastructure rollout and deepening our partnerships with fleets and OEMs to make swapping the default choice for every electric two and three-wheeler on Indian roads."
Going forward, the startup aims to serve a wider mix of electric vehicle users, fleet operators, and original equipment manufacturers. It is also targeting EBITDA profitability by the 2027 financial year.
The Broader Market Context
Yuma operates in India's growing battery swapping market, which is being driven by new products, a need for convenience, and substantial government capital subsidies. However, a lack of adequate charging infrastructure across the country remains a major hurdle despite rising electric vehicle registrations.
This gap continues to attract investor interest in EV charging and infrastructure ventures. The source report cites several recent deals in the sector.
| Company | Amount Raised | Month | Lead Investor(s) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Statiq | $18 Mn (mix of equity & debt) | July | Tenacity Ventures |
| Exponent Energy | ₹200 Cr | June | 360 ONE Asset & TDK Ventures |
Reports also surfaced last month that battery swapping startup Battery Smart was looking to list on the stock exchanges, with plans to file its draft red herring prospectus by October.
Market Outlook and Impact
At the heart of this activity is the Indian EV market itself. According to the source, it is projected to become a $132 billion opportunity by 2030. Yuma's latest fundraise signals that battery swapping is becoming a scalable business, which could influence how India's electric two-wheeler market grows over the next decade.
